Doing The Rotation.
I bought two albums recently that I absolutely love and can't stop listening to. Funny thing about them is they couldn't be further apart, genre wise. Damian Marley's Welcome to Jamrock and The Feeling's Twelve Stops and Home. I'm a sucker for a heavy bass line and Damian Marley's track 'Move!' has got the best. It mixes the refrain from Bob Marleys 'Exodus' in with more frenetic lyrics and a faster beat. It has me jumping around my room like a maniac. It's even got a few mellow tracks which are great for chilling to. There's some other tracks on there that are familiar to me because they've been used in advertisements or some such. I can even feel topical as there are some pretty heavy political messages to the songs as well although that's not a lot different from his previous albums, however this one has a slightly (if only slightly) more mainstream feel to it.
Twelve Stops and Home however is a much lighter poppier (is that even a word.)album. It reminds me of a bit of ELO especially the track 'Never Be Lonely'. It's got a very '70's feel to it and is completely uplifting, absolutely great for spring. The aforementioned 'Never Be Lonely' and 'Fill My World' are my favourites I'm also a fan of the more acoustic 'Sewn'.
Since my music tastes vary so much I rarely buy albums, so its nice to find an entire album I can listen to. I'm forever making compilation CD's because I never like more than two or three songs from one album. Most of the time I'll only like one track from a particular artist. I also have phases. I'll go through a jazz phase and my mp3 rotation will be packed with Nina Simone and Billie Holiday. Then I'll go through a mullet rock phase and it's all ACDC, Metallica and Guns N Roses. Or a reggae phase. I've even had a disco phase. My most recent phase was my latin phase, so it was all samba's and mambo's and salsas. I won't even get into the state of my music library. Big ol' genre confusion.
